Orange County Register
OC Artist of the Year is a competition for students to practice their portfolio building, interviewing, and networking skills. Three students (two seniors and a junior) are nominated by each visual and performing arts teachers on campus. There are 3 rounds: nominees. semi-finalists, and finalist. The winner of the overall competition will be featured in the OC Register, showcasing their artwork and talent.
City of Irvine
Each year, our school is invited to participate in this community event. A panel of judges will visit our classrooms to review student work. Judges select seven to ten pieces that will be displayed in by the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Students are considered nominees until a panel or artist selects three winners. The winners will have their work displayed until the summer is complete.
City of Tustin
Beckman Visual Arts has a wonderful partnership with Rasta Cowboy Records for the Tustin Art Walk + Craft Crawl. Each year in October, the studio arts, graphics, and photography students will host a both on a Saturday. Students are able to sell their own items and market their work while creating network opportunities.
Laguna College of Art + Design
There are 4 art pieces created submitted to the LCAD Student Exhibit. Each piece is of high quality and an outstanding concept. These pieces are typically created by juniors; however, sophomores are welcome to try their hand in creating a piece for this competition. The students who places in this competition is able to take a summer course at LCAD and earn college credit.
Orange County Department of Education
This event is open to all students who are currently enrolled in a visual arts course at Beckman. Teachers will submit 10-15 piece of art to this competition. The focus for this event is technique and artistic voice. Students who show originality are considered to have their work displayed at the Festival of Arts of Laguna Beach. Winners of the show will be given admission to the show all summer.
Tustin Area Council of Fine Arts
A friendly competition amongst the schools in Tustin Unified. The sponsors of this event will host a receptions where the winner are announced and awarded their certificates and prizes. Teachers will submit 10 pieces of artwork to this event. Students of all grade levels are able to submit work. We are looking for students who have excellent technique and original ideas that are innovative and unique to the artist. There are 3 levels of winners in each category.
Washington D.C.
"Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol."
Scholastic Publishing Company
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923. Students have the opportunity to have their work selected and displayed in the exhibit. This program also offers an opportunity for scholarships to selected colleges. If a student chooses to submit their work, it will be on their own. The teacher is only required to "sign off" on their work and act a sponsor for the students.
Chapman University
Teacher will submit a total of 3 entries. Teacher will select the 3 that best answer the theme or prompt for that year. This year's prompt: Answering the Call of Memory: Choosing to Act. The winner of their category will receive a cash prize, while the art class will receive an arts stipend to support the class. Winners will move on to have their work compared regionally and nationally as well. The contest brochure will explain in further detail. Please click the here to see your requirements and next steps.
Irvine Ranch Water District
Each year, Irvine Water District create a poster regarding water awareness. Each year, there is a specific theme in which they are looking to advertise in their calendar. Winners in the contest will be submitted regionally to the Municipal Water District of Orange County. Judges are looking for artwork that: answers the prompt, technique / skill level, and originality in idea. When in doubt think: Originality and Technique. Students are able to submit the work on their own, I just need to "sign off".
California Coastal Admission
Students will create original artwork that is based around the California Coast. The contestants are broken up between 5 different grade levels. Winner will earn a $100 gift card to Blick Supply Warehouse and tickets the Aquarium of the Pacific! Judges are looking for work that captures the essence / feeling of the coast. Student may submit the work on their own. They will only need a guardian signature when submitting their work.
